A therian is someone who identifies on a deep personal level with a non-human animal - not as a costume or character, but as part of who they are. Therianthropy and the furry fandom overlap but are not the same thing. Many therians are part of the furry community, and they are welcome at Clarksville Furs just like everyone else.
How is a therian different from a furry?
Being a furry is a hobby and a fandom - you enjoy anthropomorphic animal characters, art, and community. Being a therian is an identity - you experience a personal connection to a real animal species. A furry might create a fox character for fun. A therian might feel that being a wolf is part of who they are on the inside.
Some people are both. Some are one but not the other. Both are valid.
What does therianthropy look like day to day?
It varies widely. Some therians wear tails, ears, or animal-inspired accessories. Some experience what the community calls shifts - moments where their animal identity feels especially strong. Some express it through art, writing, or meditation. Others keep it completely private. There is no single way to be a therian.
Are therians welcome at Clarksville Furs?
Absolutely. Our community is for anyone who connects with animal characters and identities - furries, therians, otherkin, and anyone in between. You do not have to label yourself to belong here.
Is therianthropy the same as otherkin?
They are related but different. Therians identify with real-world animals (wolves, foxes, cats, birds). Otherkin identify with mythical or fictional beings (dragons, elves, fae). Both communities share a similar philosophy of non-human identity, and both are welcome in our space.
